Draw (color) a continuous spectrum as in figure 10.2 (bottom image - color). In the same fashion, draw a line spectrum for hydrogen as in the figure on my web page (emission spectra 1) or figure 10.3. Do not copy from your book and paste.
Illustrate how the continuous visible spectrum shown, fits into the entire electromagnetic spectrum as discussed in class (web link Electromagnetic Spectrum) and figure 10.2 (top and bottom image). (Note that figure 10.2 is drawn reversed <left to right> compared to what I placed on the board.
Label the colors in the continuous and line spectra and include the approximate wavelengths. Explain in terms of the class lecture materials why there are lines in the hydrogen spectrum (section 10.3). This explanation should include a discussion and drawing of the energy levels as in figure 10.7. Explain in your own words. Do not copy.
Be concise. Your submission is limited to one page (double-spaced TYPED) including your illustrations (four drawings).
Grading:
Seven points neatness, form, grammar, etc.
Eight points scientifically correct.
Please do not attempt this assignment if you do not intend to follow these directions. The assignment will not be graded if more than one page (front only) is handed in.
