Course
Objectives: ·
The students will
understand the need for and appreciate the benefits of information gathering,
storage, retrieval and transmission for business and industry.
The students will understand that information is the life-blood of
industry and it must be handled accordingly ·
The students will
understand the differing types of information transfer (human-human,
human-computer, computer-human, computer-computer) and the requirements
necessary for effective transmission among each, for both local and
at-a-distance communication. The
students will learn about different system and network configurations to satisfy
these differing communication needs. ·
The students will
understand the need for organizing and storing information and will learn the
fundamentals of defining databases and of retrieving data to satisfy (a)
immediate inquiries, (b) periodic summaries, (c) forecasting to support future
plans, and (d) exploratory inquiries that support investigation or new
possibilities. ·
The students will
understand the need for and methods for modeling information
flow throughout an enterprise, and modeling processes that generate and
consume information. The students
will become proficient with various tools used to model different aspects of an
enterprise. For example, students
may be asked to create a model for client questions.
The model would be expected to be integrated into all aspects of the
business including human resources, production and planning. |
