The Department of Mathematics of Southeastern Louisiana University is proud to host the 2004 Southern Regional Weekend Algebra Conference.  We invite you to join us in Hammond, LA for a stimulating weekend of professional talks and interaction.  The conference will be held 5-7 November 2004 on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana.  The conference will begin at 1:00pm on Friday and will end mid-day Sunday.  (If you would like to give a talk and find that your arrival or departure times conflict with the conference times, please be sure to let us know.)

We will update this page with further information on parking, schedule of speakers, etc. as the information becomes available.

About the Conference:

This meeting is part of a series of conferences held yearly, and this year for the first time, the host is the Department of Mathematics at Southeastern Louisiana University.  Recently, the meeting has taken place at Florida Atlantic University (November 2003), at University of Louisiana at Lafayette (October 2002), at Loyola University in New Orleans (April 2002), at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattisburg (April 2001), etc.

In addition to the program of professional talks, this year the conference will have a series of parallel sessions for undergraduate and masters-seeking students.  We encourage you to invite promising undergrads and masters seeking students to attend.  The student sessions will include talks and panel discussions on careers in mathematics, graduate school—getting in and succeeding, as well as several mathematics talks designed to be of interest to both undergraduate and masters program students.  As usual, Ph.D. students are encouraged to participate in the professional sessions.

As is usual with this conference, there will be a dinner on Friday evening.  We will be dining at Trey Yuen Chinese Restaurant.  On Saturday, there will be the conference picnic.

Registration:

As is customary with this conference, there is no registration fee.  However, in order to better plan the various events and schedules, we are asking that participants register in advance.  All attendees are encouraged to also give a talk.  Participants can register by filling out this Online Registration Form.  Please register by 22 October 2004 so that we may have time to set the program and reserve adequate space for Friday evening’s dinner.  Alternatively, you may send an e-mail to one of the organizers (addresses below) including your name and the title and abstract of your talk (if you are speaking) or you may send the same information via fax to 2004 Weekend Algebra Conference, 985-549-2099.
