Meeting--Wednesday,
January 23, 2002, 12:00 Noon
1. Vallery welcomed everyone back to a new semester.
2. Club Activities for the Spring:
A. Representatives Tank Powell and Margaret Hawkins came to the meeting to
discuss the possibility of the Club maintaining the new butterfly garden
in Ponchatoula. The butterfly garden will be dedicated on March 10,
2002 at 2:00 PM. The club decided that each member should go and
view the garden and make a final decision by the next meeting. On
February 7, 2002 there will be a council meeting held at
Ponchatoula City Hall and by then we will have made a decision.
Chuck will be representing the club at the meeting on this matter; he will
also be heading the committee in charge of the activity if the decision is
made to take on this project.
B. The Club discussed events to be sponsored by a SGA Grant. We came
up with two possibilities: Tinsely Gardens and the front of the library.
Not sure if we could even tackle the front of the library because of
contracting conflicts. Vallery is to check with Dr. Guedry and get
back with everyone. It was decided that if the front of the library
is a possibility then we would prefer that to Tinsley Gardens.
C. The port director for the USDA Plant Protection and Quarantine will be
coming to the next meeting.
3. Semester Events:
A. We have three plant sales scheduled for this semester: March 23,
2002(Rock and Roar); April 17, 2002; May 8, 2002. We need hanging
baskets, foliage plants propagated, bedding plants and vegetables.
4. Announcements/Comments:
A. There was a decision about who was qualified to go on the Club field
trip at the end of the semester.
Also graduating seniors do not qualify to go on field trip because they
will no longer be covered by SLU's insurance.
