ACADEMIC STRUCTURE AND CAMPUS COMMUNITY
By-Lion Article - February 18, 1999

What is the big deal about using a new administrative software? Decisions. Decisions. Decisions. Before we can use the new PeopleSoft software, we have to make many decisions about how to set it up. What type of computer hardware to use? Who enters the information into the system? Who is responsible for updating it? What kind of information goes into the system? Howis the information formatted?

Right now, there are several members of Southeastern's staff deciding how to put information into the Student Administration part of the software. These staff members are a part of the Academic Structure Committee and the Campus Community Committee. The committees are deciding everything from how to set up addresses and names to how to put in the names of our majors and degree programs.

Why is this so important and such a big deal? If names and addresses are not entered in the same way by everyone, then we will not have accurate student addresses for mailing letters or loan checks. If the majors and degree programs are not set up properly, it will be hard to keep up with the progress of our students and reporting it the Board of Regents.
