OVERVIEW
|
|
This Overview section is intended to provide you with general knowledge concerning the various elements of our LEO project. LEO is the name given to the overall project of converting our administrative systems, such as payroll and student records, from our "Legacy" system to a new Windows-based system supported by a relational database. Southeastern selected Oracle for the relational database support and PeopleSoft for the administrative system software. Oracle and PeopleSoft are known internationally as providers of large-scale client/server applications. Client/server technology is an alternative to large mainframe computer systems. It distributes computer processing between a central machine (the server) and the user's workstation (the client). This improves the way information is stored, processed, and reported across the campus. SLU faculty, staff, and students will benefit from the improvements by being able to input and access more timely data more efficiently. Southeastern plans to implement the three higher education modules available through PeopleSoft - Human Resources, Financials, and Student Administration. Each module implementation is lead by a project team leader and the overall implementation is guided by a steering committee. However, all members of Southeastern's community will be affected. To stay abreast of how these changes may affect you and of what is involved in the LEO project, continue to visit the LEO web site for updates on the project teams' progress, training, and our project partners. Implementing the PeopleSoft modules will take approximately four years. In this time you may hear many new terms. Please visit the glossary of terminology to find an explanation of terms that are associated with the project. You may also wish to visit the list outlining the computer hardware requirements needed to support the PeopleSoft software. We encourage submission of questions or concerns you may have about LEO. No question or concern is too insignificant or too difficult for our LEO gurus. As this process is a learning one for all of us, we encourage everyone to check this page out often. Submissions can be made to LEOinfo@selu.edu. All submissions will be directed to the best source for a timely informative reply/clarification/confirmation which will be posted on the Frequently Asked Questions page. |
