The Amite Arts Council presents
violinist Arkady Yanivker, first violin for the Toronto Symphony and Toronto
Philharmonia, accompanied by pianist Olga Tcherniak. Yanivker is founding
member of several music festivals, and has been praised for his original
virtuoso concert program, "The Glory of the Violin." His performance of
the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, on tour abroad and in Canada, has been
heralded as "...a stunning performance...fresh and joyful of spirit."
$10 reserved seats. Tickets
available in Amite at Mulberry Tree, Chamber of Commerce, and City Hall,
and at First Guaranty Bank in Hammond, Ponchatoula, Independence.

Home Folklife Days

9am-4:30pm, Sweet Home Baptist Church Museum (Hwy. 51 North, Kentwood)
A celebration of Kentwood’s
African American community includes hands on demonstrations of story telling,
home remedies, hair styling, childhood games and music, and a traditional
baptism at the “baptizing hole” -- Cool’s Creek. Traditional African American
foods will be offered for sale and children can hear a variety of music,
from drum beating to gospel, at the children's music tent.
$2 adults, $1 children
