David Benac
“New Orleans, Katrina, and Historic Preservation” 
David Benac, Southeastern’s public historian, is playing a role in preserving the unique historical architecture of post-Katrina New Orleans. He will discuss his work with the state and city preservation agencies to seek alternatives to FEMA-ordered demolition of buildings deemed historically significant. (Reception to follow)

Sponsored by the Department of History and Political Science, the 2007 Then and Now lecture series is dedicated to Professor Emeritus of History Billy H. Wyche, a member of the Southeastern faculty for 33 years. The Georgia native is an authority on labor history, particularly within the lumber industry in Bogalusa and the Florida Parishes. He has published widely on the subject as well as other topics such as the Civil War era. A former member of the board of the Louisiana Historical Association and played a major Dr. Wyche played a significant role in the revitalization of Southeastern’s graduate program in history.
