The More-or-Less
Annual Halloween Lecture returns with the usual mix of scholarship, silliness,
surprises, and sweets as the head of Southeastern’s Department of History
and Political Science puts the so-called “culture wars” of the present
day in historical context by discussing the real war against Christmas,
Easter, Halloween, and other church holidays waged by Puritans (Calvinist
Christians) in 17th-century England and its American colonies. Costumes
(even Puritan costumes) are encouraged!
