Sinfonica sin fronteras: Latina Art from Louisiana
Seven Louisiana artists explore their Hispanic roots in an exhibit that is truly a sinfonica sin fronteras--a "symphony without borders" with works that sing the songs of women of many cultures. The artists pay tribute to their Cuban, Mexican-American, Honduran and Colombian ancestry, yet their highly personal artworks challenge ethnic definitions with contemporary styles and universal meanings. In conjunction with the exhibit, a panel discussion will bring the artists and their art together with scholars of Latin American and women's studies and art history to explore the artistic endeavors of Hispanic women in this region.
Oct 8-Nov 9, Internet Gallery, 201 E. Thomas St., Hammond
A panel discussion is scheduled for 2pm, Oct 16 at the Internet Gallery. A reception will follow.

The Art of Africa
Clark Hall Gallery will host an exhibit of works--textiles, baskets, sculpture and beautifully wrought weapons--from the collection of Southern University in New Orleans. The exhibit is part of the University's celebration of November as "International Arts Month."
Oct 30-Dec 3, Clark Hall Gallery
An opening reception is scheduled from 4-7pm, Oct 30, in Clark Hall Gallery. Gallery hours are 8am-4pm, weekdays.
