Brown Bag Concert
Fanfare swings into action to the cool sounds of Southeastern Jazz Ensemble playing for picnickers in picturesque Cate Square in downtown Hammond. Willis Delony directs this traditional kickoff to a month of Fanfare fun.

Music for a Sunday Afternoon
Hammond churches open their doors to classical music fans on Sunday afternoons. The First Christian Church, 305 E. Charles, will host organist Richard Webb on Sept. 27. The LSU A Cappella Choir will perform at the First Baptist Church, 401 W. Morris, on Oct. 4, and Music of the Angels, featuring harpist Rachel van Voorhees, flutist Dean Miller, violinist Amy Thiaville, violist Suzanne Lefevre and cellist Ann Cohen, will be the guest of the First United Methodist Church, 2200 Rue Denise, on Oct. 18.
Music for a Sunday Afternoon concerts are at 3pm. Free

SLU Opera/Music Theatre
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Southeastern's perennially popular Opera/Music Theatre program brings to the stage Stephen Sondheim's musical comedy classic that blends the hilarious illogicalities of a Latin comedy and the zany nonsense of vaudeville.

Elizabeth Futral
Young American soprano Elizabeth Futral, a former resident of Covington, is noted as one of her generation s leading lyric-coloratura sopranos. Her 1997 New Orleans Opera debut in Lakme was rated one of the most beautiful performances...of the season. She will sing her Metropolitan Opera debut in the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor in January 1999.

The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra
Picnic-n-Pops
The Baton Rouge Symphony brings an evening straight from Broadway to the Hammond Rotary Club's popular Picnic-n-Pops. Joined by a trio of outstanding soloists, the orchestra will present selections from musical theatre s best-loved shows, including West Side Story, The Sound of Music, South Pacific, Starlight Express, Cats, Camelot, Evita, Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. American Boychoir

Moscow Piano Trio
One of the most highly esteemed and leading chamber ensembles in Russia, gives an encore performance following its 1997 Fanfare debut. Their style may be described by two words --extra class!

Moscow Piano Trio and SLU Orchestra

Chamber Orchestra Kremlin
An 18-member string orchestra founded and led by conductor Misha Rachievsky, the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin is often praised for beauty of tone and instrumental virtuosity. The comment most frequently heard, however, concerns the leading Russian ensemble's ability to "charge" the hall and hold the audience throughout a performance.
