John Paul & Shawn Leopard
Harpsichordists John Paul and Shawn Leopard combine their talents in a concert of harpsichord duets composed by the likes of Johann Sebastian Bach, Haydn and Scott Joplin.

JoBe Cerney
As president of Cerny American Creations, JoBe Cerny is an internationally known professional from the creative side of the advertising industry who has won virtually every advertising award. As an actor, he is the voice of the Pillsbury Dough Boy and the deadpan man in the Cheer commercial. He will talk on creativity in a lecture titled "When You Start With Nothing, You Learn to Appreciate Nothing More."

The Thomas Matheny Lecture
Andrei Codrescu
Romanian-born poet and essayist Andrei Codrescu looks for the unusual in everyday life, often bringing an outsider s perspective to his writings and musings. His probing, thought-provoking commentary is featured regularly on National Public Radio s award-winning newsmagazine All Things Considered. In Fanfare s annual Thomas Matheny Lecture, he will address Whose Memory is This? Cyberspace and the Reptile Defense League.

Triangle Baroque Ensemble
The acclaimed Triangle Baroque Ensemble of North Carolina combines the talents of former Southeastern music professor and flutist Brooks de Wetter-Smith, soprano Penelope Jensen, harpsichordist Elaine Funaro and cellist Brent Wissick.

Bill Robison
In "Scandals and British Royalty: Past and Present," Southeastern history professor Bill Robison shows that the trials and tribulations that have rocked today's Royals may be "news," but in a long line of royal ruckuses, they're nothing "new."

Judith Fai-Podlipnik
Southeastern assistant professor Judith Fai-Podlipnik, whose research has centered on 20th century Hungary from the Second World War through the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, examines Genocide Beyond Nazi German Borders: The Role of East European Collaborators in the Holocaust.

Verdehr Trio
Critics say that the Verdehr Trio Kathryn Brown, piano; Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr, clarinet, and Walter Verdehr, violin have achieved an ideal balance of virtuosity. For more than 20 years, the first-rate musicians have concentrated on molding and defining the personality of the violin-clarinet-piano trio.

Wade Heaton
In "The Toga: It's not Clothing, it's a Concept," Southeastern English professor Wade Heaton dons his custom-made, authentic Roman toga to examine the garment s meaning, symbolism, legal status, care, the art of toga draping and why Romans never wore the sacred robe of peace to a party.

Joseph Evans
Fanfare always gives an enthusiastic round of applause to Louisiana-born tenor Joseph Evans, who gained fame as a principal with the New York City Opera and has performed throughout the United States and in Europe.

Mr. Evans will present a master class at 4pm, Oct. 22, in the Music Recital Hall.
