Blythe Spirit
In Noel Coward’s classic
comedy, writer Charles Condomine and his new wife, Ruth, have recently
returned from their honeymoon, and, for a lark, have invited friends to
dinner and a séance with Madame Arcati, a local medium. Unwittingly,
the party is crashed by an uninvited guest when Charles conjures the ghost
of his late wife, the mischievous and beautiful Elvira, whom only Charles
can see and hear.

Aquila Theatre Company
Romeo and Juliet
The incomparable Aquila
Theatre Company presents Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare’s unmatched vision
of uncompromising true love. Set in the vibrant city of Verona, the compelling
and tragic events spawned by two great Italian families’ ancient feud are
as gripping and dynamic to today’s audiences as they were to Londoners
400 years ago. Aquila’s highly talented ensemble of British and American
actors creates a stylistic adaptation that focuses on the story’s major
themes and brings the text vividly to life, creating an evening of sparkling
drama.

Songs for a New World
Songs for a New World fuses
pop, folk, rock, jazz, gospel, funk, and cabaret with dramatic, poignant,
comic, always theatrical lyrics. This excellent review by Tony-Award winner
Jason Robert Brown (Parade, The Last Five Years) transports audiences from
a 1492 Spanish ship to a ledge high above Fifth Avenue where they meet
a startling array of characters -- from a young man who has decided that
basketball is his ticket out of the ghetto, to a political prisoner begging
to have his life back, to the latest Mrs. Santa Claus. Rated R for language.
$14, general admission; $10

L.A. Theatre Works
The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial
Herman Wouk’s acclaimed
World War II drama was a literary, stage and film sensation. L.A. Theatre
Works, America’s premiere radio theater company, brings the Pulitzer Prize
winning novel to life as a brilliant courtroom tragedy in a semi-staged
production with live sound effects and an all-star cast including Grant
Shaud (pictured) and John Vickery. On the U.S.S. Caine, naval officers’
suspicions about their captain’s sanity lead to their rebellion and subsequent
court-martial. L.A. Theatre Works brilliantly illustrates the characters’
conflicts, the uncertainty of war and the thin line between sanity and
reality. Cast members subject to change.
