KSLU TO AIR HAMMOND HIGH CHILDREN’S RADIO PROGRAM
SATURDAY
HAMMOND -- Southeastern
Louisiana University’s public radio station, 90.9 KSLU, will air “Mr. Twister’s
Storytime for Children,” a radio program produced by Hammond High School,
on Saturday, November 15.
KSLU General Manager Wayne Cain
said the radio program for children will be broadcast at 8:30 a.m. The
program consists of three stories -- “The Three Little Pigs,” “Country
Mouse, City Mouse,” and “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” -- adapted for radio and
performed by HHS teacher Monica Sullivan’s Survey of Fine Arts class.
KSLU Program Director Todd Delaney,
who edited the show, said he was impressed with the talent
of the Hammond High students, who rewrote the stories for radio. “I’d be
happy to have them come work for us at KSLU when they come to college,”
he said.
Last year Sullivan’s class adapted
three Edgar Allen Poe stories, which were performed live on KSLU on Halloween
evening. Cain said working with Sullivan and her students again this year
was a great experience.
“She prepared the students for
working on this project by playing some of the classic old-time radio programs
from the thirties and forties, such as Orson Welles ‘War of the Worlds’
broadcast,” he said. “It’s wonderful to work with someone who is as excited
about radio as we are. And I think some of that excitement has filtered
down to the students.
“We’d like to invite everybody
to tune in this Saturday morning and join us for the broadcast, especially
all the kids in the area,” he said.
