SOUTHEASTERN YEARBOOK AGAIN EARNS FIRST PLACE HONORS
HAMMOND -- For the second year in a row, Southeastern Louisiana University’s yearbook, “Le Souvenir,” has been recognized with a first place award by the American Scholastic Press Association.
The 2002 yearbook garnered  marks of excellence in the areas of writing, photography and page design, said Matthew Tarver, director of Student Publications. It also was recognized as the "Best Modern Look College Yearbook."
Southeastern graduates Chad Hebert of Marrero and Brenda Bergeron of Hammond served as editor and design editor, respectively.
With a total of 945 out of a possible 1,000 points, “Le Souvenir” placed just behind Wake Forest University’s “The Howler” and ahead of yearbooks from Purdue and Dallas Baptist University, Tarver said.
"Receiving this award is quite an honor for the ‘Le Souvenir,’ staff,” Tarver said. “Their skill, talent, dedication and ability to work under a myriad of conditions is displayed throughout the book. This recognition is also testament that the yearbook and the university are known nationally for producing high-quality student publications."
Southeastern Vice President for Student Affairs Brad O’Hara agreed. “‘Le Souvenir’ has recently garnered several awards,” he said, “so, on one hand, this comes as no surprise. I have grown to expect this level of excellence from the yearbook staff and their advisor, Matt Tarver, and I congratulate them all.”
In its first place honors last year, the 2001 “Le Souvenir” earned 850 points and scores of excellence in content presentation, general page design, general photography and creativity.
Student interested in joining the “Le Souvenir” staff can contact Tarver at 985-549-3731.
