SOUTHEASTERN CHANNEL DEBUTS NEWS MAGAZINE SHOW
HAMMOND -- "Southeastern Times," a news magazine show about programs, events and personalities at Southeastern Louisiana University, will begin airing at 7 p.m. Tuesdays on the Southeastern Channel, the university's educational cable access channel on Charter Cable Channel 18.
The channel will air a new episode of "Southeastern Times" each month. The program, which features Southeastern student anchors and reporters, is produced by university students in conjunction with the Southeastern Channel and the university's Public Information Office.
"Southeastern Times" is a great way to showcase the high caliber of academic programs, faculty and students at Southeastern," said Rick Settoon, general manager of the Southeastern Channel.  "Local viewers will enjoy this slice-of-life, insider's look at the rich academic and cultural activity on campus."
According to Settoon, the program also offers university television students a great vehicle for gaining real-life production experience in a magazine format.
The first episode highlights Southeastern's new Southeast Louisiana Business Center and how it has helped develop local businesses such as Red, White and Brew. Other features include history professor Michael Kurtz and his views on the 40th anniversary of the Kennedy Assassination, nursing students who conduct health screenings for Amite migrant workers, and an emotional profile of student Megan Vesley, who battled to finish college while her father was dying of multiple sclerosis.
Also, Southeastern President Randy Moffett discusses the university's involvement in community Service Learning projects.
"Southeastern is a breeding ground for innovation," said Cheryl Settoon, managing producer of the show. "I think viewers will be surprised to learn about all of the cutting-edge programs taking place in their backyard. "Southeastern Times" displays the many gifts and talents of students and faculty members who are often unsung heroes on campus."
