APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE FOR SLWP SUMMER INSTITUTE
HAMMOND -- The Southeastern
Louisiana Writing Project (SLWP) at Southeastern Louisiana University is
accepting applications for its13th annual Invitational Summer Institute
for teachers of writing.
The institute, which will meet from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday,
June 7-July 8, is designed for teachers of all grade levels and subjects
who use writing in their classrooms.
During the institute, 15 selected teachers will be invited to study the
teaching of writing and share their own best teaching practices. Participants
will also be given the opportunity to write and develop workshops on teaching
writing that can be used as in-service sessions at local schools.
A special feature of this summer's institute will be a "writing marathon"
in New Orleans.
Participants become Summer Fellows at the university and receive free tuition
from the National Writing Project, a stipend, books and materials, and
six hours of graduate credit.
Applicants should submit a resume; a brief description of a writing activity
used in their classroom; a letter of recommendation from a supervisor or
from a member of the SLWP; and a page containing name, address, phone,
e-mail, Social Security number, university I.D. number (“W number”), school
and grade level where the applicant currently teaches.
Applications will be considered until the institute is filled, and on-campus
interviews will take place after each application is received.
