HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University’s Concert Choir and Women's Chorale will present works by Britten, Dvorak, and Handel at a community concert on November 19.
The free concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Hammond’s First Baptist Church, 401 W. Morris St.
Director Alissa Mercurio Rowe said highlights will include the Concert Choir's performance of Benjamin Britten's 1943 cantata "Rejoice in the Lamb," featuring soloists Wendy Kinchen of Tickfaw, soprano; Christina Babin of Prairieville, alto; Marshal Dean of Denham Springs, tenor; and Dan Talbot of Hammond, organ.
The choir also will perform "The King Shall Rejoice" from Handel's “Coronation Anthems,” accompanied by musicians from Southeastern’s Chamber Orchestra; "Choose Some Like a Star" from Randall Thompson's “Frostiana”; and "I'm Gonna Sing 'til the Spirit Moves in My Heart" by Moses Hogan.
The choir, Southeastern’s premiere vocal ensemble, will be accompanied by pianist Charles Effler, staff accompanist and director of the university’s Opera/Music Theatre Workshop.
Rowe said the Women's Chorale's featured piece is Antonin Dvorak's “Moravian Duets, Op. 32.” Soloists will include Babin, Cassie Arnold of Ponchatoula, Maria Burkett of Chalmette, Kimberly Hilliard of Covington, Elizabeth Turner of Mandeville and Jessica Davis of Ponchatoula.  The chorale also will perform Francisco J. Nunez's "Misa Pequena" and "Life Has Liveliness to Sell" by James Mulholland. Southeastern student pianist Hristo Birbochukov of Haskovo, Bulgaria, will accompany the singers.
