SLU CONCERT CHOIR TO PERFORM VIVALDI "GLORIA" NOV. 19
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Concert Choir, the university's
premier vocal ensemble, will perform Vivaldi's "Gloria" Nov. 19 in Pottle Music Building
Auditorium.
The 7:30 p.m. concert is free to the public.
"After Handel's 'Messiah' and a couple of others, Vivaldi's 'Gloria' is one of the most
popular choral works ever written," said Concert Choir director Brad Richmond.
The "Gloria," accompanied by orchestra, will feature as soloists choir members Summer
Grest of Ponchatoula, Susan Buller of Jeanerette, Kelsy Chambers of Baton Rouge, Amber Klein
of Gonzales, and Nicole Aucoin of Bourg.
Richmond said the choir also will perform a number of unaccompanied sacred songs of
praise in the first half of the program.
Under Richmond's leadership, the Concert Choir has doubled in size from 21 to 43 voices
over the past four years. Students must audition for the choir, which primarily includes
Southeastern voice majors, but is open to all students.
Richmond also directs the non-audition University Chorus, which joins with the
community's North Shore Choral Society for a holiday concert each year. The University Chorus
and North Shore Choral Society plans a concert on Dec. 3 at Hammond's First Baptist Church.
The choirs will perform choruses from Handel's "Messiah," Christmas anthems and a work by
contemporary composer Gerald Near entitled "Novo Contico." Southeastern's Ronald Brothers
will be featured as organist.
For additional information about Southeastern choral events, call Richmond at 549-2334.
