SLU LIBRARY OFFERS MINI-WORKSHOPS
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University s Sims Memorial Library is offering a
series of free mini-workshops this fall providing hands-on instruction on the Internet, e-mail,
genealogy, job hunting, finding governmental goodies, and using the library s online catalog.
Free and open to participants from the campus and community, the approximately one-hour
sessions will be held in the library in room 355. Registration is required and enrollment is limited
to
30 people. To register, call 504-549-5055/5056.
The sessions are:
Beginning Internet, 5:30 p.m., Sept. 15 or noon, Sept. 18: an introduction to the Internet,
no experience is necessary..
Advanced Internet, 5:30 p.m., Sept. 29 or noon, Oct. 2: tips and techniques for using
Internet search engines, some experience with Internet browsers required.
Information from Uncle Sam, 5:30 p.m. or Oct. 6 or noon, Oct. 9: how to find statistics,
regulations, reports, recipes and other interesting items published by U.S. government agencies.
Searching LOUIS, 5:30 p.m., Oct. 13 or noon, Oct. 16: how to search Sims Memorial
Library s online catalog and indexes
E-mail, 5:30 p.m., Oct. 20 or noon, Oct. 23: basics of using Pine and Eudora e-mail
programs.
Genealogy, 5:30 p.m., Nov. 3: a beginner s guide to researching your roots.
Job Search Strategies, 5:30 p.m., Nov. 10 or noon, Nov. 13: a session for beginners on
how to use library resources to find a job.
