SOUTHEASTERN RECEIVED $120,000 MATCH FOR ENDOWED
PROFESSORSHIPS
HAMMOND -- State Commissioner of High Education Dr. Joseph Savoie presented
Southeastern Louisiana University President Sally Clausen with a check for $120,000 through
the Louisiana Board of Regents Support Fund to help create three new endowed professorships.
The initial contribution of $180,000 from Ms. Leola R. Purcell combined with the
Regents match will create the three $100,000 endowed professorships. They are:
B.C. Purcell Endowed Professorship in Kinesiology and Health Studies
Leola R. Purcell Endowed Professorship in English
Lola Sue Purcell Smith Endowed Professorship in Psychology.
"The Southeastern family is grateful to Ms. Purcell for her generosity," said Clausen.
"While we look to our state to provide basic funding to keep our university running, gifts like
these allow Southeastern to climb to excellence. Thanks to Ms. Purcell for recognizing our
potential and for making sure, through this donation, that Southeastern continues to excel and
that our students are given the best instruction that we have to offer."
To date Southeastern has received a total of $880,000 in matching funds from the
Regents Support Fund to underwrite a $1 million endowed chair and 12 professorships. These
endowments total $2.2 million.
