CLAUSEN PROPOSES RAISE FOR SLU UNCLASSIFIED STAFF 
     HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University President Sally Clausen has asked the
University of Louisiana System Board of Trustees to approve a pay raise for approximately 160
unclassified employees.
     Clausen is  proposing a $2,000 raise per unclassified staff member hired before July 1, 1996.
If approved by the Board of Trustees at its January meeting, employees would begin receiving
the
raise at the end of January, Clausen said.
     "Although still insufficient, it is my hope that these recommended raises and the Board's
approval will send a symbolic message to you of your importance to this university and its
future,"
Clausen told staff members in a December 13 memo. Part-time employees will be included in the
proposed raise based upon the percentage of time they are employed with the university.
     Unclassified employees are defined as those members of the Southeastern's staff who are not
faculty and are not a part of the State Civil Service system.
