| WORSHIP SERVICE LAUNCHES INVESTITURE ACTIVITIES AT
SOUTHEASTERN HAMMOND -- A 7:30 a.m. ecumenical worship service on Monday, Sept. 16, will launch a week full of activities associated with the investiture of Randy Moffett as Southeastern Louisiana University’s 13th president. The service – open to the general public as well as Southeastern students, faculty and staff -- will be held in the Pennington Student Activities Center. The Very Rev. Paul M. Bailey, pastor of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church in Hammond, will preside at the service. Moffett, a 25-year veteran of the Southeastern administration, was named interim president in April 2001 by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors and appointed president in December. The investiture – scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19 – is a formal academic ceremony recognizing the appointment of a new university president and symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge in higher education. In addition to the worship service, events open to the public during the week include an exhibit, “The History of Southeastern,” sponsored by the Center for Southeast Louisiana Studies at Sims Memorial Library; dedication on Wednesday, Sept. 18, of the Presidential Plaza, at 2 p.m., in the area between D Vickers Hall and the War Memorial Student Union; and the dedication by students of the new Twelve Oaks Performing Circle at 3 p.m. The circle, funded by the Student Government Association, is located between the Pottle Music Building and Twelve Oaks. The worship service will include a welcome and benediction by the Rev. Samuel Brown, pastor of Mt. Vernon and Mt. Pleasant Baptist Churches in Hammond; performances by the Southeastern Concert Choir under the direction of Alissa Rowe and the Southeastern Gospel Choir; scripture readings; and prayers for President Moffett and Southeastern offered by representatives of campus ministries. |
