SOUTHEASTERN CELEBRATES 15,000TH STUDENT
HAMMOND -- Charles E. "Chuck" Bradley III didn't expect anyone to make a fuss over
him when he registered at Southeastern Louisiana University on Wednesday (August 27).
How was he to know that he would be the 15,000th student to pay fees during Fall 1997
registration? Hitting that 15,000 mark is a "first" in Southeastern's 72-year-old history.
Southeastern cannot officially claim an enrollment of 15,000-plus until the semester tally become
official on the 14th day of classes, September 12. Late registration continues through today
(August 28) and registration for off-campus classes also is still in progress.
But, Bradley, a Baton Rouge native who has recently moved back to his home city from
Texas, was greeted with gifts, confetti, noise-makers and cheers as he reported to Southeastern's
Controller's Office.
"Did you just pay your fees?" asked Vice President for Administration and Finance
Stephen Smith. "Then, congratulations!"
Bradley was initially bemused, then amused, at the attention.
"Well, this is quite a surprise," he said, as he eyed his armload of Southeastern souvenirs,
including a candy-filled jar from the Southeastern Alumni Association. "This is really
something."

A licensed professional counselor, Bradley enrolled at Southeastern to take an ethics
course that he needs for Louisiana certification. He is a graduate of Baylor University and
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas, and now has a private practice
in Baton Rouge.
     Southeastern's Fall 1996 enrollment was 14,592.
