DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD -- The Southeastern Louisiana University
Alumni Association has presented its Distinguished Service Award to 1975
graduate Ken Kenelly, a Hammond native and Baton Rouge State Farm Insurance

SERVICE
TO STUDENTS – At its annual Awards Evening on Oct. 17, the Southeastern
Louisiana University Alumni Association presented its L.E. Chandler Award,
which recognizes service to Southeastern students, to 1990 graduate and
marketing instructor Duane Donald, center. Making the award presentation

SERVICE
HAMMOND -- The Southeastern Louisiana
University Alumni Association has presented its Distinguished Service Award
to 1975 graduate Ken Kenelly, a Hammond native and Baton Rouge State Farm
Insurance agent.
Kenelly was among a number of
honorees at the Alumni Association’s annual Awards Evening on Oct. 17,
the eve of the university’s Homecoming Day celebration. Duane Donald, a
1990 graduate and instructor in the Department of Marketing and Finance,
received the L.E. Chandler Award for service to students; while a new award,
the Director’s Diamond Award, went to Hammond businesswoman Judy Althouse,
and the Golden Pride Award to Hammond resident Freda Green.
After graduating from Southeastern,
Kenelly received master’s and doctoral degrees in education from Lamar
University and the University of Southern Mississippi, respectively. The
son of the late Pat Kenelly, Southeastern athletic director and coach,
Ken Kenelly was a member of the Lions football team and worked as an assistant
football coach, golf coach, volleyball coach and assistant to the athletic
director at Southeastern. He is a member of the Alumni Association board
of directors and the Former Football Players Association and is past president
of the Redstick Alumni chapter. He helped establish and has chaired the
annual Coaches Memorial Golf Tournament, which has raised more than $30,000
in endowed scholarships for student athletes.
Donald received his bachelor’s
degree in management in 1990 and a master of business administration degree
in 1992. As a Southeastern student, he earned Role Model of the Year and
Athlete of the Year honors, and served as president of Alpha Phi Alpha
fraternity.
A standout player for the Lions
basketball team, Donald returned to Southeastern after graduation as an
assistant basketball coach then joined Citizens National Bank where he
worked his way to manager of AmSouth Bank. As a member of the Southeastern
faculty, he works with the American Marketing Association student chapter
and is coordinator of the department’s internship program.
Donald is a former member of
the Alumni Association board, served on the finance committee and is a
charter member and president of the African American Alumni Chapter. He
also is a board member for Louisiana Special Olympics and a mentor with
the Slidell Youth Leadership Club.
Also at the Awards Evening, the
Alumni Association recognized Pat Williams, Pam Skibinski, Tony Durio,
and Vice President for University Advancement Joseph Miller for their efforts
on behalf of the association. The association also recognized 1992 graduate
Josh Burton, who recently received the prestigious Miliken National Educator
