SOUTHEASTERN CHANNEL WEB SITE, DOCUMENTARY WIN AXIEM AWARDS
HAMMOND -- The Southeastern Channel,
Southeastern Louisiana University’s educational cable access channel, has
won international Axiem Awards for its web site and “Stan the Man: 1947-1964,”
a documentary feature on legendary football coach Stanley Galloway.
The 2004 Axiem (Absolute Excellence
in Electronic Media) Awards included 1,100 entries from all 50 states along
with Australia, Canada, Denmark and the United Kingdom. Awards were based
on innovation, creativity, technical merit, and overall experience of the
production.
The Southeastern Channel web
site, www.selu.edu/tv, won a Silver Award in the Internet “Educational”
category. The web site was created and designed by Nicole Lousteau, a Southeastern
senior majoring in digital art. Originally from Georgia, Lousteau, who
also manages the site, plans to graduate next May.
“We’re extremely pleased that
our web site has received national recognition,” said Rick Settoon, station
general manager. “Nicole is a talented artist who’s designed a stylish,
user-friendly web site with a creative interface and graphics. She deserves
credit for a web site that ranks at the top for college television channels.”
“Stan the Man,”a segment of the channel’s award-winning documentary “Fighting
Lions: The Glory Years,” won Silver Awards in television sports and feature
story categories.
The program was produced and
written by Settoon. Todd Dunnington, the channel’s operations manager,
was videographer along with staff member Paul Catalanotto, who also edited
the production.
With the Axiem honors, “Fighting
Lions” has now won nine national and international awards. The documentary
has also won multiple Telly, Videographer, and Aurora awards along with
a Gold Remi Award at the Worldfest International Film and Video Festival.
“Winning the Axiem Awards
is great honor for our football documentary,” Settoon said. “The
international competition was stiff. This represents the type of
high-quality quality programming that the Southeastern Channel brings its
viewers.”
In the last year, the Southeastern
Channel has won four additional national awards for public affairs and
arts programs along with “Southeastern Times,” a news magazine about the
university produced in conjunction with the Office of Public Information
and the Department of Communication. |
