News release Public Information Office   SLU 10880   Hammond, LA 70402   phone: 985-549-2341   fax: 985-549-2061 publicinfo@selu.edu     www.selu.edu/news Contact: Christina Chapple Date: 2/3/03   Click on image for publication quality photo MUMME TO SPEAK AT BREAKFAST – Southeastern Louisiana University head football coach Hal Mumme will be the guest speaker at the College of Business and Technology’s third “Business Breakfast” 7:30 a.m. February 21 at Southeastern’s Twelve Oaks.  Mumme will lead the Lions back to the playing field this fall. “BUSINESS BREAKFAST” TO FEATURE HAL MUMME        HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University’s new head football coach Hal Mumme will be the guest speaker at the College of Business and Technology’s “Business Breakfast” scheduled for February 21 at Southeastern’s Twelve Oaks.         The breakfast was originally scheduled last October, but was rescheduled due to inclement weather.       The breakfast, the third in a new series initiated by the college last fall, will begin at 7:30 a.m. Tickets are $10 and seating is limited to 200.        Mumme is the Lions’ first football coach since the program was discontinued due to budget cuts following the 1985 season. He most recently coached Southeastern Conference member Kentucky, where he led the Wildcats to back-to-back bowl games in 1998 and '99 -- a feat accomplished only twice previously in the 109-year history of the program.       A native of San Antonio, Texas, Mumme, who has collected eight collegiate coaching honors during his career, was twice named the GTE Region II Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association and was named the 1999 South/Southwest Coach of the Year by Football News.       Prior to elevating the Kentucky football program to its most competitive level in 20 years, Mumme did much the same for Division II Valdosta State University where he was head coach from 1992-96, when he guided the school to its only NCAA Division II playoff appearances in 1994 and 1996. The five consecutive winning seasons earned top-20 national rankings in his tenure including a No. 1 ranking at one point during the 1996 campaign.       Mumme entered the collegiate head coaching ranks at Iowa Wesleyan where he coached from 1989-91. He led the squad to a combined 25-10 record and advanced to postseason appearances in each of his three seasons.
