SOUTHEASTERN'S ANNUAL CAREER FAIR SET SEPTEMBER 21
HAMMOND -- All Southeastern Louisiana University students and alumni are invited to attend Career Fair 2004, the Office of Career Services=s annual university?wide career event.
Career Fair 2004 will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, in the Pennington Student Activity Center on the corner of University Ave. and General Pershing.
“Career Fair 2004 is an excellent opportunity for students and alumni to network with representatives of numerous employers, develop job leads, and establish important contacts,” said Ken Ridgedell, director of Career Services. “The information and contacts participants gather significantly improves their chances of securing a career after graduation.
“Where else are you going to find over 125 employers under one roof, eager to talk with you about your future?” he added.
To get the most out of the fair, Ridgedell said students and alumni should dress professionally; bring copies of their resumes; be prepared to briefly discuss career interests, goals, knowledge and skills; and collect brochures and business cards.
A list of participating employers is available on Career Service's web site, www.selu.edu/career
To help participants prepare, Career Services is sponsoring a series of resume workshops the week before the fair and a professional dress and etiquette seminar.
Ridgedell said that Career Services is also offering new “emergency resume clinics.” “Bring us your resume and we will give it a quick, five-minute review,” he said. The clinics are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 16 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Career Services Office, War Memorial Student Union room 241.
The resume one-hour workshops, scheduled for room 223 in the Student Union, will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 7; 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sept. 8; and 9:30 a.m. Sept. 9. Participants should bring a copy of their resume.
The professional dress and etiquette seminar will be offered from 3-4:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Student Activity Center.
