SOUTHEASTERN STUDENTS RECEIVE CHILD WELFARE
STIPEND RECIPIENTS -- Six Southeastern Louisiana University senior
social work students have been awarded $5,000 stipends through a special
program funded by a Louisiana Office of Community Services Title IV-E grant.
The program is designed to prepare professional practitioners in the field
of child welfare. Each year, participants are selected based on scholarship,
leadership and commitment to work with at-risk families and children. They
have committed to take three child welfare courses, serve an internship
in local child welfare offices and work in the field for a year following
graduation. The grant also funds the students' participation in social
work and child welfare conferences. Chosen to participate in 2005-06 were
from left, front row, Shannon O’Neil of St. Bernard Parish, April Poolson
of Independence, Emily Bennett of Slidell; middle row, Charlee McLaughlin
of Hammond, Retha Morrell of Hammond, Danielle Trosclair of Norco; back
row, Robert Couvillion, OCS regional administrator; Dalene Smith, OCS liaison,
and Maurice Badon, Southeastern Child Welfare Program coordinator. |
