SOUTHEASTERN CHOIRS SEEKING STUDENT, COMMUNITY SINGERS
HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s
choral ensembles are seeking singers.
The Northshore Chorale and University Chorus – non-audition ensembles
open to all students and area residents – will begin rehearsals on Aug.
24, said Alissa Mercurio Rowe, interim director of choral activities.
“With more than 100 singers from majors
throughout the university and professions across the community, these ensembles
regularly perform major works with professional orchestras and soloists,”
Rowe said. “We’re inviting anyone who enjoys choral singing to join us
at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24 in the Pottle Music Building Annex choral
room [room 163].”
The choirs rehearse together from 7-9
p.m. each Tuesday in the choral room.
“This fall the University Chorus and
Northshore Chorale will perform two patriotic choruses with the Southeastern
Wind Symphony at the Columbia Theater on Oct. 27 and Vivaldi’s ‘Gloria’
with full orchestra on Dec. 5,” Rowe said.
The repertoire for the choirs also
includes Mozart's “Requiem” and “Mass in C minor,” Bernstein's “Chichester
Psalms,” the “Fauré Requiem,” Orff's “Carmina Burana,” Schubert’s
“Mass in G,” and Vaughan Williams’ “Five Mystical Songs.”
