| SOUTHEASTERN HOSTS FAMILY LIFE CONFERENCE APRIL 8
HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana
University will host the third annual “Building a Learning Community” Family
Life Conference on April 8.
The conference, sponsored by
Southeastern’s College of Education and Human Development and the Tangipahoa
Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council (TADAC) will be held from 8:30 a.m. to
4 p.m. at Southeastern’s University Center.
“The purpose of the Family Life
Conference is to empower students, parents, and professionals through education,
information exchange, and resources through workshop sessions and displays
on a variety of topics related to family life issues,” said TADAC Executive
Director Beth Abel. TADAC is a United Way agency.
Workshop sessions will be held
throughout the day and will feature notable regional speakers on a variety
of topics. Those topics include “Adolescent Drug Use: Warning Signs and
Treatment Options”; “Anger Management for Parents”; “Backtalk”; “Birth
Order and Family Dynamics”; “Breaking the Code: Solving the IEP Mystery”;
“Collaboration and Conflict: How to Play in the Same Sandbox”; “Discover
the Fountain of Youth Within Yourself”; “Grief and Children: What Do I
Do?”
More topics are “Holding Effective
Family Meetings”; “Juggling Life’s Multiple Tasks”; “Living With Individuals
With ADHD”; “Let’s Get Fit!”; “Media Literacy for Parents & Teachers”;
“My Body Belongs to Me – A Personal Safety Program”; “Parent Involvement:
The Key to Success”; “Play Is a Child’s Work”; “Punishment Does Not Work”;
“Purchasing With Plastic”; “Tool Guide Pyramid”; “Transition: How to Get
From Here to There Successfully”; and “Willoughby Wallaby Wo – An Early
Literacy Program.”
