SOUTHEASTERN DANCE HOLDS AUDITIONS FOR FANFARE PRODUCTIONS
HAMMOND – Auditions for Southeastern
Louisiana University’s department of music and dramatic arts’ Fanfare productions
will be held Aug. 17 from 5-6:30 p.m. and Aug. 18 from 1-2:30 p.m. in the
dance studio, room 153 of Southeastern’s Kinesiology and Health Studies
building.
Southeastern dance instructor Dana
Brewer-Plazinic said jazz and modern dancers, along with musicians and
singers, are being sought for roles in two department productions during
Fanfare, Southeastern’s annual October arts festival.
The auditions are for Brewer-Plazinic’s
“Postcards With a View,” scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20 in Vonnie Borden
Theatre, and “Rapunzel,” directed by associate dance professor Martie Fellom
and scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 29, also in Vonnie Borden Theatre.
Separate auditions will be held for
musicians and singers, who are asked to contact Brewer-Plazinic (985-549-5254
or dbrewer@selu.edu) for additional
information.
Through the medium of dance, “Postcards
with a View” will present vignettes about human relations, conflicts, dreams,
memories, joyful times and forgotten places. The concert will feature the
choreography of Southeastern faculty and students, live music by Southeastern
musicians and singers, and a special contribution by guest artist-in-residence
Skip Costa of New York's COREmovement Project and NYLA Dance Conventions.
For Fellom’s “Rapunzel,” Southeastern
author Alan Marsh has created another mythology, a new twist -- with an
edge -- on the original fairytale. The timeless story of the beauty with
flowing locks is brought to life through dance, choreographed by Southeastern
students Jarrod Cashe, Kristin Brooke Johnson, and Micah Richerand.
Auditioning dancers must be at least
16 years old and should wear appropriate dance attire with jazz or ballet
shoes. Barefoot is acceptable.
Southeastern students selected for
the performances must register for a fall 2004 semester one-hour credit
dance ensemble class and one of the following one-hour courses – introduction
to dance technique, modern dance I, modern dance II, ballet I, ballet II,
or jazz I. |
