News release Public Information Office  SLU 10880   Hammond, LA 70402   phone: 985-549-2341   fax: 985-549-2061 publicinfo@selu.edu Spring 2004 news releases Public Information home News archive Contact: Christina Chapple Date: 9/21/04   SOUTHEASTERN SPONSORS HOMECOMING CONTESTS      HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University will celebrate Homecoming Week October 4-9 with a host of activities for both the campus and community, including a bonfire, alumni awards evening, reunions, parade and the 6 p.m. Oct. 9 Southeastern-Northern Colorado football game in Strawberry Stadium.       Alumni Director Kathy Pittman said plans for the gala celebration also include a shoe box float decorating contest for area children, ages 6-13.      First, second and third place prizes will be given in three categories -- ages 6-7, 8-9 and 10-13.  Contest rules require that participants decorate a standard size shoe box using the 2004 homecoming theme, “Roomie Goes Around the World.”       Children should include the following information on the bottom of their float: full name, address, city, state, zip, phone number, age, grade and school. Entries should be brought by 4:30 p.m. Oct. 4 to the Southeastern Alumni Center, 500 University Ave., where they will be on display during Homecoming Week.      Also adding to Southeastern Homecoming spirit are a t-shirt design contest for Southeastern students, a tailgating recipe contest for Southeastern staff, a “Lions Lessons” contest for faculty, and decorating contests for campus doors and Hammond businesses.       For more information on contests, contact the Alumni Center, 985-549-2150 or 1-800-SLU-ALUM.
