News release Public Information Office  SLU 10880   Hammond, LA 70402   phone: 985-549-2341   fax: 985-549-2061 publicinfo@selu.edu Spring 2004 news releases Public Information home News archive Contact: Rene Abadie Date: 2/16/04   SOUTHEASTERN TO HOST REGIONAL HEALTH CARE SUMMIT ON WEDNESDAY       HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University will host one of Governor Kathleen Blanco's regional health care summits on Wednesday (Feb. 18) from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts Conference Center.       The meeting is one of eight summits planned around the state and designed to provide input into a statewide meeting conference scheduled in early March.       Attendees will look at challenges posed by the uninsured, Medicaid and Medicare populations; health care needs of children, people over the age of 65, and those with developmental disabilities, mental illness and addictive disorders; and the strengths and gaps in the community's health care system. Participants will also be asked to describe changes that could improve health care based on access, quality and cost to the state and patient of services.       The meeting is open to the public but individuals wishing to participate should pre-register by calling 985-549-3772 or via e-mail to summit coordinator Donnie Booth at dbooth@selu.edu.
