MUSICAL COMEDY REVIEW COMES TO COLUMBIA APRIL 1
HAMMOND -- In a theatrical age of mammoth spectacles and brooding musical dramas, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” is a rollicking throwback to a nearly extinct theatrical genre: the musical comedy revue.  With book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music by Jimmy Roberts, the hit show reinvigorates the revue by taking a hilarious and tuneful joyride throughout the dizzying spectrum of modern male-female relationships.
Southeastern Louisiana University’s Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts will present “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” at 7:30 p.m., April 1, at the renovated downtown Hammond theater.
Tickets are $33, orchestra 1 and loge; $30, orchestra 2 and balcony 1; and $27, balcony 2. Tickets are available online through TicketWeb (ticketweb.com) or at the theater’s box office, 220 E. Thomas St., beginning March 24. The box office is open from noon to 5 p.m., weekdays, and one hour before the performance.
With four actors playing more than 40 roles in a collection of scenes and songs scaling the dizzying spectrum of male/female relationships, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” reveals the difficulties and joys of connecting with another person, no matter what age.
The show opened at the Westside Theatre in New York on August 1, 1996, following highly acclaimed engagements at New Haven’s prestigious Long Wharf Theatre, and the American Stage Company in New Jersey, where the production set a new box office record.  Critics and audiences cheered the New York debut of the new musical revue, which Gannett Newspapers hailed as “Hilarious! The most entertaining show on or off Broadway!” The Star-Ledger, called “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”  “a great first date show.  A perfect mating dance! It’s ‘Seinfeld’ set to music!”
On January 7, 2001, with its 1,848th performance, the New York production became Off-Broadway's longest-running musical revue, breaking the long-standing record established by "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris."
The Southeastern Alumni Association’s Tangi Chapter is hosting a pre-performance dinner in conjunction with the “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.”  Prior to the show, the chapter will host a dinner in the Columbia’s first floor conference room.
The event’s $30 price includes the dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. and reserved seat tickets for the musical. For tickets, call the Alumni Center at 985-549-2150 or 800-SLU-ALUM or register online at www.selu.edu/alumni.
