SUMMER GALLERY EXHIBIT FEATURES
CERAMIC SCULPTURES – Southeastern Louisiana University's Center for Contemporary
Art director Dale Newkirk sets up sculptures by artist Jeremy Jernegan.
The exhibit opens on June 24.
CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY ART PRESENTS JERNEGAN, STIRRATT
EXHIBITS
HAMMOND – On June 24, Southeastern
Louisiana University’s Center for Contemporary Art will continue its exhibits
of the summer season with the ceramic sculptures of Jeremy Jernegan.
Jernegan’s sculptures include
large scale standing forms, smaller macquettes and wall pieces. His
exhibit will continue to be shown until July 22. The Center for Contemporary
Art is located in East Strawberry Stadium.
Jernegan earned master of fine
arts degrees in 1986 and 1987 from San Jose State University. Since 1994,
Jernegan has been the associate professor of art at Tulane University’s
Newcomb Art Department.
Jernegan’s work has been shown
at the Wheeler Art Community Studio Gallery, Still-Zinsel Gallery, Sandler/Hudson
Gallery, Trout Art Gallery and the Carol Robinson Gallery, and has been
featured in “Ceramics Monthly,” “Ceramics Technical,” “The Sentinel,” and
the “Winston Salem Journal.” .
He has served six consecutive
years as the programs director and executive board member for the
National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts. In 2003, he was invited
to participate as a demonstrating artist in the International Ceramic Studio
Workshop at the Second World Ceramic Biennale in Korea.
In addition to the Jernegan exhibit,
the gallery will feature the paintings of Betsy Stirratt July 15-August
26.
In 1999 and 2001 Stirratt was
a Indiana Arts Commission Masters Fellowship winner as well as a 1989 Arts
Midwest/NEA fellow. Her paintings have been exhibited at the Herron
Gallery, Ruschman Gallery, Aron Packer Gallery, Harrison Fine Art, and
the McMurtrey Gallery.
Stirratt is on the selection
committee for the Efroymson Contemporary Art Fellowhip and she has produced
a print for the Fine Print Program, Paris Review in New York, N.Y.
Her work has been featured and reviewed in “Paris Review,” “Mouth to Mouth,”
“Indianapolis Star,” “Nuvo,” and “American Craft Museum.”
