SOUTHEASTERN HOSTS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE FOR PARTNER
SCHOOLS
HAMMOND -- Teachers from Orleans,
Tangipahoa, St. Helena, Livingston, and St. Tammany parishes will gather
at Southeastern Louisiana University June 9-11 for a special institute
targeting accountability and student achievement.
The institute, “Leading for Learning:
Partnering for Student Success,” is sponsored by Southeastern’s Department
of Educational Leadership and Technology and the Center for Development
and Learning in Covington.
Teams from 13 Southeastern partner
schools, composed of principals, teachers, central office personnel and
a Southeastern faculty member, will participate in the institute. Those
schools include Tangipahoa Parish’s Hammond Westside Lower Elementary,
Ponchatoula Junior High, Midway Elementary, and Southeastern Laboratory
School; Livingston Parish’s Albany Lower Elementary; and St. Helena Parish’s
St. Helena Central Elementary School.
Participating schools from St.
Tammany Parish are Bayou Lacombe Middle School, Cypress Cove Elementary,
Lake Harbor Middle School, and Woodlake Elementary. Orleans Parish participants
are McDonogh 15 Elementary, Edison Elementary and Lusher Elementary.
Sessions will be led by Carol Rolheiser
and Joanne Quinn of the University of Toronto/Ontario Institute for Studies
in Education. They will address topics such as research-based instructional
strategies, using professional development to build learning communities
for student success, and planning for coherence among various initiatives.
The institute will also outline steps for ongoing support and follow-up
between the participating schools and Southeastern. |
