SOUTHEASTERN HOSTS MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. CELEBRATION JAN. 19
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University
will celebrate the legacy of the late Civil Rights leader Martin Luther
King Jr. with a candlelight processional and program on Wednesday, Jan.
19.
The theme for the event, sponsored annually by the Kappa Nu Chapter
of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, is "Capturing The Dream: Unity Through Diversity."
The processional will begin at
7 p.m. at Lee Hall, said Alpha Phi Alpha’s Aron Walker of New Orleans.
He said participants will walk to the Student Union Theatre, where a remembrance
program will begin.
The program will include remarks by
Joseph K. Byrd, vice president of student life at Xavier University in
New Orleans, and a performance by Christina Hanible of Hammond, winner
of the Southeastern Star 2 competition.
At the conclusion, Alpha Phi Alpha
will continue the tradition of laying a wreath at the tree planted in King's
memory in the War Memorial Student Union park.
