SLU TO HOST 500 COLLEGE STUDENTS AT REGIONAL NATS CONFERENCE
HAMMOND -- More than 500 college students from Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas will gather at Southeastern Louisiana University November 7-9 for the National Association of Teachers of Singing Southern Region Conference and Student Auditions.
During the conference, hosted by the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts, tenor Daniel Weeks, and pianist Donna Hallen Loewy will present a guest recital at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts.
The recital is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7. Tickets, $10 general admission, will be available at the door.
Weeks is sponsored by the Marilyn Horne Foundation and has appeared all over the United States as recitalist and opera singer. A guest of Southeastern’s Fanfare festival in 2000, he was a 1999 national finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and won the National Federation of Music Club’s Young Artist Competition. The Marilyn Horne Foundation recently presented Weeks in his New York City debut.
Loewy is professor of accompanying and accompanist-in-residence at the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio. She has prepared and accompanied many top prize winners and performs as a collaborative pianist throughout the United States.
The guest artists also will present four residencies and performances for students at Covington High School, Mandeville High School and Ponchatoula High School on November 4 and 5 as part of The Marilyn Horne Foundation residency program for artists.
