HAMMOND The Board of Examiners of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher
Education (NCATE) will visit Southeastern Louisiana University April 13-17 as part of the
council's accreditation review of the university's teacher preparation program.
NCATE is soliciting third-party testimony and comments on the quality of the university's
teacher education program. Written comments can be sent directly to the NCATE Board of
Examiners, 2010 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20036-1023.
Southeastern has one of the largest teacher preparation programs in the state and the program
has been nationally accredited by NCATE since 1976.
NCATE is the teaching profession's method of ensuring high quality teacher preparation. The
organization is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Commission on
Recognition of Post-Secondary Accreditation. In recent years, NCATE has focused its efforts on
developing demanding standards for schools, colleges and departments of education that prepare
teachers and school specialists.
