SOUTHEASTERN PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE WINS VIDEO AWARDS
HAMMOND -- The Southeastern
Louisiana University Office of Public Information has received five bronze
awards for video productions in the 26th annual Telly Awards competition.
“The NEW Southeastern,” a nine-minute
video designed to highlight the mission of the university and to show recent
innovations on the campus, won an award in the corporate image category.
The piece – which features Southeastern President Randy Moffett, various
faculty and students – was produced, scripted, taped and edited by the
staff and students of the Public Information Office.
“The Punisher,” a video story
produced and largely shot by local filmmaker Hobby Morrison, won two awards
in the entertainment and editing divisions. A fictional story, “The Punisher”
highlights the transition of Southeastern’s first-year football team into
its second season by profiling a new strength and conditioning coach who
instills a sense of purpose and confidence in the team. Steve Kleyle, video
editor with the Office of Public Information, assisted Morrison in producing
the 16-minute feature and did all the editing.
Also winning an award for editing
was “An Act of Bravery,” an eight-minute video that depicts in dance and
narration the efforts of a molestation victim to reclaim her life after
revealing her experiences. Written, directed and choreographed by Southeastern
dance professor Martie Fellom, the piece features original music by Conor
McGibboney of Hammond who currently resides in Athens, Greece, and the
dancing of then-student Michele Cudd of Hammond. “An Act of Bravery” was
edited by Kleyle and videotaped by Kleyle and Claude Levet of the Office
of Public Information.
Winning in the music/concert category
was “Kathy Mattea at the Columbia,” a video of the award-winning artist’s
performance at Southeastern’s Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts
in Hammond. The performance, described by Mattea as “contemporary folk
with a Celtic twist,” airs regularly on the Southeastern Channel, the university’s
cable access channel. The concert was taped with the assistance of channel
staff.
The Office of Public Information
is the Southeastern’s primary external communications arm, providing news,
photographic and video services, and graphic design and printing assistance
for the university. The video branch is charged with producing a variety
of instructional, educational and entertainment programs for the university,
many of which air on The Southeastern Channel.
The Telly Awards is the premier
award honoring outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials, video
and film productions. The Telly Awards receives more than 10,000 entries
annually from all 50 states and many foreign countries. |
