RANDY SETTOON APPOINTED DEAN OF COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
HAMMOND --  Randall P. Settoon, who has served on the Southeastern Louisiana University faculty since 1994, has been appointed dean of the College of Business effective July 1, 2005.
Previously head of the Department of Management since 1999, Settoon also served as interim head of the Department of Computer Science for the past year. He succeeds Michael Budden who will return to full time teaching in the college. The College of Business is Southeastern’s second largest academic unit enrolling more than 3,600 students in undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
Settoon’s appointment was approved Friday (May 27) by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors, Southeastern’s governing body.
“Randy Settoon brings to this position a wide array of administrative and teaching experience as well as research expertise,” said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs John Crain. “He has a good vision of the potential for the College of Business to forge bonds with businesses in the area to aid the economic development of our region and to provide internships and other opportunities for our students.”
“I will be looking to build stronger partnerships with business and industry, offering the resources of the college as an important catalyst for economic development in the region,” said Settoon, who has had a longtime relationship with the university. Settoon’s father, Dr. Pat Settoon, served as university provost and dean of the College of Science and Technology; his brother, Rick, is general manager of the Southeastern Channel.
Settoon joined the Southeastern faculty as an assistant professor and was named a professor in 2004. He played an integral role in the development of Southeastern’s Internet-based distance education course offerings, delivering the university’s first international Internet-based course to a class in Germany.
His major areas of interest and research include organizational behavior and human resource management. He holds a bachelor of science degree in computer science and master of science in business administration from Southeastern and earned his doctorate in business administration with a concentration in management from Louisiana State University.
Widely published in academic and business journals, he has received several awards for his research and teaching. He currently serves as a member of the editorial board of several journals and as a reviewer for the “Academy of Management Journal” and the “Academy of Management Review.”
