SOUTHEASTERN TO UNVEIL OFFICIAL UNIVERSITY RING AT HOMECOMING
HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University is adding an official university class ring to its list of university traditions.
The new ring will be unveiled at halftime of the Nov. 12 Homecoming football game, when the Lions take on Nicholls State University at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium.
Created by Balfour and designed by a committee of Southeastern students, faculty, staff and alumni, the official ring has been over a year in the making. The ring comes in five styles – three for women, two for men. Available in both white and yellow gold, the new ring collection replaces all class rings associated with Southeastern.
“The ring is more than a piece of jewelry; it’s a symbol of an enduring legacy and a proud tradition,” said Alumni Director Kathy Pittman.
“Having an official ring brings a new meaning to pride and school spirit for Southeastern students, faculty, staff, and alumni,” said student and ring committee member April Field of Amite. “Students will want to be a part of this program to feel a greater sense of accomplishment that comes with wearing the official Southeastern ring that represents all that the university stands for.”
“Overall, the ring represents each student’s educational journey, something that they can revisit each time they put on their class ring,” said student Daniel Ray Brown of French Settlement. “The new ring tradition will allow the students of Southeastern to show their Lion pride long after they leave their alma mater.”
Pittman said alumni can also purchase the new ring, or exchange an old Southeastern ring, free of charge.
“Traditions created by alumni when they were students are what make our university what it is today, and this is our way of thanking them,” said Pittman. “The Alumni Association is excited about this new tradition which will help cement future relationships with current students.”
The exclusive ring collection will be available to alumni and to students who have completed at least 75 hours of coursework. Rings can be ordered online through www.selu.edu/alumni and www.follett.com or purchased at the Southeastern Book Store in War Memorial Student Union.
