MARCH 21 GUEST RECITAL FEATURES BASS-BARITONE,
PIANIST
HAMMOND – Bass-baritone
Shawn Roy and pianist Chan Kiat Lim will perform works by Mozart, Beethoven,
Debussy, Fauré, Strauss, Brahms and Weill at Southeastern Louisiana
University’s Music Recital Hall March 21.
The free 7:30 p.m. concert is part of
Encore!, the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts’ annual spring concert
series.
Roy is a vocal instructor and
director of the Opera Theater at the University of Louisiana- Lafayette,
where he has been a member of the faculty since 1998. Previously, he performed
with companies such as the New York City Opera National Company, Arizona
Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Center for Contemporary Opera in New York, and
West Norwegian Opera and toured in France, Spain, Belgium and Switzerland.
His directing credits include “The Medium,” “Hansel and Gretel” and “Cosi
Fan Tutte.”
Roy received his master’s degree
in voice and artist diploma in opera from the College-Conservatory of Music
at the University of Cincinnati.
Lim, a native of Malaysia, is
also a graduate of the College-Conservatory of Music at the University
of Cincinnati, where he received his doctoral degree. A member of the piano
faculty at the ULL, he was the recipient of the College of Creative Arts
Performance Grant from West Virginia University and has won several piano
competitions including the Young Artist Concerto Competition, WVMTNA Collegiate
Piano Competition, and WGUC Cincinnati Public Classical Radio Audition.
Lim was the official accompanist
for the 45th World Piano Competition and the instrumental and vocal collaborative
pianist for the Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca in Italy.
