News release Public Information Office  SLU 10880   Hammond, LA 70402   phone: 985-549-2341   fax: 985-549-2061 publicinfo@selu.edu summer 05 news releases Public Information home News archive Contact: Christina Chapple Date: 10/12/05   DISASTER ASSISTANCE WORKSHOPS CONTINUE; LOAN APPLICATION DEADLINE APPROACHING        HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University Small Business Development Center and partner organizations are continuing to offer disaster relief assistance workshops for business owners affected by Hurricane Katrina.        The workshops, held in various north shore locations throughout October, are designed to help business owners prepare applications for federal disaster assistance through the Small Business Administration Disaster Loan Program.        “Since the deadline for the physical injury portion of the loan has been set for October 28, 2005, business owners are urged to get their applications completed,” said Sandy Summers, assistant director of Southeastern’s SBDC. She said the deadline for the economic injury loan is May 29, 2006.        The workshops are free, but admittance is on a first come, first serve basis. For additional information and to register, contact the Southeastern SBDC at 985-549-3831 or sbdc@selu.edu.        The Oct. 17-28 workshop schedule is        Mondays, Oct. 17 and 24, 9 a.m.-noon, Southeast Louisiana Business Center, 1514 Martens Drive, Hammond.        Tuesdays, Oct. 18 and 25, 9 a.m.-noon, Bogalusa Chamber of Commerce, 608 Willis Ave., Bogalusa.        Wednesdays, Oct. 19 and 26, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m., Southeastern St. Tammany Center, 21454 Koop Dr., Mandeville.        Thursdays, Oct. 20 and 27, 9 a.m.-noon, LA DOTD Federal Credit Union, 1620 South Range Ave., Denham Springs.        Fridays, Oct. 21 and 28, 9 a.m.-noon, St. Tammany Parish Library, Slidell Branch, 555 Robert Blvd., Slidell.        Participants should bring any available information regarding their businesses, including income tax returns, balance sheets, profit and loss statements, damage descriptions and proof of insurance.  Businesses that do not have access to records will still be able to apply for assistance.          Workshop co-sponsors include the Chambers of Commerce of Bogalusa, Denham Springs, Slidell, Hammond and St. Tammany West; the Dixie Development Center, Livingston Economic Development Council, LA DOTD Federal Credit Union, Hammond Industrial Development Board, St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation, Tangipahoa Economic Development Foundation, and Washington Industrial Development Foundation.
