SOUTHEASTERN CHANNEL DOCUMENTARY WINS TELLY, AURORA AWARDS
HAMMOND -- “Fighting Lions: The Glory
Years,” a television documentary on the history of Southeastern Louisiana
University football, has added two Telly Awards and a Gold Aurora Award
to its list of national and international honors.
Produced by the Southeastern Channel,
the university’s educational access channel on Charter Cable Channel 18,
“Fighting Lions: The Glory Years” won the prestigious Telly Award in both
“Documentary Program” and “Sports Program” categories.
The Telly Awards is the premier award
competition honoring outstanding cable TV programs. The Tellys annually
showcase the best work of the world’s most respected production companies,
television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments.
The Tellys receive more than 10,000 entries annually from all 50 states
and many foreign countries. Competition this year included the Discovery
Network, NBC, MSNBC, TBS, BET, ESPN and FX networks.
The Aurora Awards recognize creative
excellence in the film and video production industries. Other winners this
year included the FOX News Channel and Spike TV.
“Fighting Lions: The Glory Years” covers
the 75-year history of Southeastern football, spotlighting its most successful
teams over seven decades. Interviews with former players and coaches, vintage
photographs, and never-before-seen game footage from the different areas
highlight the show.
“It’s a great honor for “Fighting Lions”
to win against the best in the television industry in competitions as highly-respected
as the Telly Awards and Aurora Awards,” said Rick Settoon, general manager
of the Southeastern Channel. “It was truly a team effort by some talented
and dedicated professionals, and it represents the type of quality we plan
to continue bringing our viewers.”
Settoon produced and wrote the documentary
while channel staff member Paul Catalanotto edited the program. Both Catalanotto
and Todd Dunnington, operations manager for the channel, served as videographers.
Cheryl Cannon was the production secretary.
“Fighting Lions” has now won seven
major national and international television awards, including a Gold Remi
Award for “Research and Writing” at the WorldFest International Film and
Video Festival and two first place and one honorable mention Videographer
Awards.
