SOUTHEASTERN’S SHRM RECEIVES SUPPORT FROM PARENT CHAPTER

HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) was recently presented a check for $1,000 by their parent professional chapter, Northshore Human Resource Association (NRHRA), in support of many of the chapter’s activities.
Presenting the check was Darlene Young, president of NRHRA and operations manager of Bancroft Rehabilitation Living Centers. SHRM President Rachel Beard presented the parent chapter with an appreciation plaque from the student chapter in honor of their continuous support and dedication.
The Northshore Human Resource Association has provided the Southeastern chapter of SHRM financial support for a number of activities, including the national SHRM conference in June 2004, where the chapter received a Top Ten Student Chapter award. For the spring 2005 semester, NRHRA also funded a $1,000 scholarship. This “Student Excellence Award,” will be given to a Southeastern SHRM member based on commitment and service to the organization and the field of human resources. It is anticipated that this scholarship will be presented annually.
The Society for Human Resource Management's Student Program was created in 1965 “to promote mutually beneficial interaction between human resource management students and practitioners.” There are nearly 10,000 student members nationwide.
Students interested in becoming a member of SHRM should contact Carl Phillips at 985-549-3081 or email SHRM@selu.edu.
