SILVERWINDS DUO PERFORMS AT SOUTHEASTERN
WEDNESDAY
HAMMOND – The Silverwinds Duo – Southeastern
Louisiana University faculty musicians Nicole J. McPherson, flute, and
Andrew Seigel, clarinet – will present a recital Wednesday, March 23, at
the university’s Pottle Music Building Auditorium.
The 7:30 p.m. recital will include
Claude Debussy’s “Prelude a l’apres-midi d’un faune” as well as works by
modern American composers Gary Shocker, Cynthia Folio, and Libby Larsen
and by French composers Jean Rivier and Jacques Ibert.
Seigel, assistant professor of clarinet,
previously taught clarinet on the faculties of Michigan State University,
Albion College, and Spring Arbor University. From 1997-1999, he studied
as a Fulbright Scholar at Hungary’s Franz Liszt Academy of Music. He earned
his doctoral degree as a distinguished fellow at Michigan State University
and his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from California State University-Fresno.
Seigel has performed throughout the
United States and in Hungary, Germany, and Romania. Most recently, he performed
with the Grand Rapids Symphony and principal clarinetist of the West Shore
Symphony. He has also performed with the Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra,
the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, the Fresno Philharmonic, and the Orpheus
Chamber Ensemble.
As a chamber musician, Seigel has performed
with the Powers Woodwind Quintet of Central Michigan University, the Fulton
Ensemble, and is the founding clarinetist of the Veritas Ensemble. He was
a featured performer at the 1998 Fulbright Musical Gala in Berlin, and
has appeared as a soloist with ensembles in California and Michigan.
An instructor of flute, McPherson is
completing her doctoral degree in flute performance at Michigan State University,
where she also completed her master’s degree. She earned her bachelor’s
degree at Ithaca College. She has performed with orchestras throughout
Michigan, including a solo appearance with the Michigan State University
Symphony Orchestra.
Originally from New York, McPherson
was a featured soloist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. She was
invited to perform at the 2001 National Flute Association Convention and
the Global Flute Workshop in New York City. Before joining the Southeastern
faculty, she taught for six years at the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Community
Music School where she developed a studio of award-winning students.
