SILVERWINDS DUO PERFORMS AT SOUTHEASTERN WEDNESDAY
HAMMOND – The Silverwinds Duo – Southeastern Louisiana University faculty musicians Nicole J. McPherson, flute, and Andrew Seigel, clarinet – will present a recital Wednesday, March 23, at the university’s Pottle Music Building Auditorium.
The 7:30 p.m. recital will include Claude Debussy’s “Prelude a l’apres-midi d’un faune” as well as works by modern American composers Gary Shocker, Cynthia Folio, and Libby Larsen and by French composers Jean Rivier and Jacques Ibert.
Seigel, assistant professor of clarinet, previously taught clarinet on the faculties of Michigan State University, Albion College, and Spring Arbor University. From 1997-1999, he studied as a Fulbright Scholar at Hungary’s Franz Liszt Academy of Music. He earned his doctoral degree as a distinguished fellow at Michigan State University and his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from California State University-Fresno.
Seigel has performed throughout the United States and in Hungary, Germany, and Romania. Most recently, he performed with the Grand Rapids Symphony and principal clarinetist of the West Shore Symphony. He has also performed with the Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra, the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, the Fresno Philharmonic, and the Orpheus Chamber Ensemble.
As a chamber musician, Seigel has performed with the Powers Woodwind Quintet of Central Michigan University, the Fulton Ensemble, and is the founding clarinetist of the Veritas Ensemble. He was a featured performer at the 1998 Fulbright Musical Gala in Berlin, and has appeared as a soloist with ensembles in California and Michigan.
An instructor of flute, McPherson is completing her doctoral degree in flute performance at Michigan State University, where she also completed her master’s degree. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Ithaca College. She has performed with orchestras throughout Michigan, including a solo appearance with the Michigan State University Symphony Orchestra.
Originally from New York, McPherson was a featured soloist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. She was invited to perform at the 2001 National Flute Association Convention and the Global Flute Workshop in New York City. Before joining the Southeastern faculty, she taught for six years at the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Community Music School where she developed a studio of award-winning students.
The Silverwinds Duo recital is part of “Encore!,” the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts’ spring concert series. For additional information, contact the department at 985-549-2184.
