The morning-long seminar had a football theme -- “Teaching: Go the Extra Yard” -- complete with an appearance by cheerleaders, faculty clad in the black-and-white-striped garb of game officials, and footballs tossed by members of the Student Teaching Advisory Council. Mumme, who told about his eye-opening experiences teaching American history as a young coach at Moody High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, encouraged the future teachers, “You must win the hearts and minds of your students.
