SOUTHEASTERN CHANNEL WINS FOUR  TELLY AWARDS
HAMMOND -- Four original programs produced by the Southeastern Channel, Southeastern Louisiana University’s cable access channel, have won national Telly Awards.
“Northshore Business” was named winner of a first place Silver Telly while “The Florida Parish Chronicles,” “Northshore Focus” and “College Night” each won second-place Bronze Tellys.
The Telly Award is the premier award given to cable television programs and commercials, video and films. The awards showcase the best work of television stations, production companies, cable operators, advertising agencies and corporate video departments.
The 2005 Telly Awards received 10,000 entries from all 50 states and many foreign countries. Among the winners were Discovery, ESPN, The Learning Channel, The History Channel, PBS, E! Networks, FX Network, The Food Network, and The Weather Channel.
“To win these awards against the best in the industry is a great honor.  It’s a credit to our staff which works hard to maintain the channel’s high quality standards,” said Rick Settoon, general manager of the Southeastern Channel.
"In a very short time, the channel has received national recognition for producing high quality, diverse programming," said John Crain, provost and vice president for academic affairs. "This national and international recognition sets the Southeastern Channel apart from other university television channels across the country. The channel staff, as well as Southeastern faculty and students involved in creating great original programming, should be commended for their accomplishments."
“Northshore Business,” a program about economic development on the north shore that provides helpful advice and information for business owners, won the Silver Telly in the “Business Magazine Show” category. The show is produced by Settoon and videotaped and edited by staff member Pelle Eriksson.
“College Night” won a Bronze Telly for “Student Entertainment Show.”  Southeastern students Randi Rousseau of Ponchatoula and Choni Francis of Houston host the program, which is produced, directed and edited by staff member Paul Catalanotto.
“The Florida Parish Chronicles,” which showcases Florida Parishes history, won in the “History Series” category. Southeastern history professor Samuel C. Hyde, director of the university’s Center for Southeast Louisiana Studies, hosts the program, which is also produced by Settoon and shot and edited by Eriksson.
“Northshore Focus,” a round table about important issues on the north shore, was a winner in the “Talk Show Series” category. Southeastern communication instructor Steve Bellas, news reporter for ABC26 in New Orleans and former news/weatherman for WDSU-TV Channel 6, hosts the show. It is produced by Settoon and edited by staff member Todd Dunnington.
Southeastern Channel original programs have won 28 national and international awards in the past two years.
